2022 Bodegas El Nido Clio

Clio is the more approachable sibling in the El Nido range from the Gil Family. Working with Chris Ringland,  they set out to show what old vine Monastrell from Jumilla can do when treated with care and ambition. Rich, powerful, and polished rather than rustic.

This blend of 70% Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon comes from very old, perhaps over 100 years old of low-yielding vines. It shows a deep, opaque color with aromas of blueberry, blackberry, briar, toast, minerality, and a touch of espresso and licorice. The palate is plush and opulent, full-bodied with ripe berry fruit, savory depth and satisfying finish.

The fruit is hand-harvested into small baskets and aged for around 23–24 months in a mix of new French and American oak, giving the wine its characteristic density and complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
