2023 Farrside by Farr Pinot Noir

Gary and Nick Farr make some of Australia’s most respected Pinot Noir from their Moorabool Valley vineyards near Geelong. They focus on single-vineyard expressions that clearly show the differences between sites, with a style shaped by years of experience in Burgundy and a commitment to natural ferments and careful elevage.

Farrside comes from a cooler, northeast-facing site with black volcanic soil over limestone, planted in 2001. It typically shows more structure and savory character than their other Pinots. This vintage offers a balanced mix of red and black fruits with meaty, spicy, and mineral notes. It is fresh and edgy yet firm and delicate. Recent descriptions note it has become finer, more vibrant, and shows purity while still carrying the site’s masculine edge.

The fruit is hand-picked, fermented with 40–50% whole bunches using natural yeast, and aged in 50–60% new French Allier oak for about 18 months.
