2020 Garmón

Very much a hands on family project Garmón Continental is owned by the García family. Eduardo García is the primary winemaker, working closely with his father Mariano (the highly regarded former Vega Sicilia winemaker) and his brother Alberto.

Together as a family they set out to make a refined, fresh, and precise expression of Tinto Fino rather than a heavy, over-extracted style.

This pure Tempranillo comes from new and old vines, some being 100 years old across several villages in the eastern part of the appellation. The 2020 vintage shows a deep cherry-red color with aromas of fresh black and red fruit, licorice, cedar, vanilla, aromatic herbs, and a touch of earth and spice. The palate is lively and tense, with compact juicy tannins, good freshness, and a long, polished finish.

This family is obsessed with freshness over pure concentration, which is why they keep macerations relatively short and age the wine for 20 months in French oak.
