2019 Talenti Pian di Conte Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

Riccardo Talenti carries forward the quiet, determined work his family began near Sant’Angelo in Colle. Pian di Conte is both the name of the place and the name of their most serious wine — a Riserva made only in the strongest years from the oldest vines that surround the cellar, at around 400 meters with southwest exposure.

On the nose, split pine, cedar, dried flowers, mentholated herbs, and a smoky, mineral edge. It is silky yet concentrated, with ripe wild berries, flinty depth, sweet tannins, and a spicy finish that carries violet and tart cranberry. It has the structure and quiet intensity of a true Riserva. Still a little closed, but already beautiful and built to unfold over the next 15 years.
