2019 AXR Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

AXR is a relatively young Napa Valley project founded by a group of friends who partnered with highly regarded winemaker Jean Hoefliger, formerly of Alpha Omega. Based in St. Helena, they craft wines that aim for both immediate appeal and aging potential, drawing fruit from carefully selected sites across the valley.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon sources from Denali, St. Helena, Yountville and Spring Mountain. It shows a deep, dark color with magenta edges. The nose is floral and complex, rose petals, lavender, pencil shavings, black pepper, blackberry, blueberry, and paprika. On the palate it is dense yet layered, with dark fruit, violet, and fresh granular tannins that carry through a long finish.

Critics highlight its balance of richness, fine tannins, and energy.

We always talk about what’s on the inside of the bottle, but in this rare case you’ll want to note what’s on the outside as well. On the front of the bottle, the full AXR geometric design is etched directly into the glass, topped with a red wax capsule sealing the cork. On the back, Jean Hoefliger’s personal signature and a short quote give the wine a more intimate, founder-driven character.
